Exceptional Essays and Robust Reports

Essays and reports provide students with the opportunity to showcase knowledge in a particular format. Each document follows a specific structure and this is key to producing text that is coherent and progresses logically.

We will edit your essay or report so that your research and ideas are presented clearly, and make sure your English is flawless. Your document will be presented in the best possible light.

Regardless of how brilliant your content is, if you can’t communicate your findings and ideas clearly and effectively, then you’re unlikely to get the outcome you deserve.

Our Report and Essay Editing and Proofreading Services give you the best possible chance of success.

Essays

Essays are short formal pieces of writing that deal with a single subject. The purpose of an essay is to persuade the reader using selected research evidence or supporting details. In-text citations and a references/bibliography page must be included if research is presented in the essay.

Broadly, an academic essay consists of three parts:
  1. Introduction
    • Introduces the topic
    • Captures the reader’s interest
    • Provides background information
    • Presents a thesis statement

  2. Body
    • Presents and details the main points of the essay
    • Each paragraph has a topic sentence, followed by supporting details (e.g. evidence) and interpretation
    • Supporting details are presented to persuade the reader/support the thesis statement
    • Each paragraph ends with a concluding sentence that summarises the key points of the paragraph
    • The concluding sentence uses transition words that connect to the next paragraph

  3. Conclusion
    • Summarises the content of the essay
    • Does not introduce any new evidence or ideas
    • Refers back to the thesis statement

Reports

Reports are more structured than essays. They use headings to organise the content and must be objective, unbiased and based on facts. A good report is clear and concise. Reports may present findings from, for example, a research study, or events that have occurred.

Common types of reports are business, scientific and technical reports, all of which have their own structure. Furthermore, the structure and requirements of reports may differ among organisations, so it is important to follow the specific guidelines that have been set.

  1. Title Page
  2. Table of Contents
    • Lists the main sections and subsections of the report with page numbers
    • Includes figures, tables, reference list and appendices

  3. Abstract
    • Summarises the aims, methods, results, conclusions and recommendations

  4. Introduction
    • Provides background to the study
    • Summarises key literature
    • Provides rationale for the study
    • Presents the aims, objectives and hypotheses
    • Outlines how the study will contribute to the current knowledge on the topic

  5. Materials and Methods
    • Presents the design of the study
    • Details the materials and procedures used including statistical analyses

  6. Results
    • Clearly presents the results
    • Includes figures, tables etc where appropriate
    • Does not discuss the results

  7. Discussion
    • Discusses and interprets the results highlighting significant findings
    • Compares the findings with other studies
    • Discusses the relevance and limitations of the study

  8. Conclusion
    • Re-states key findings and implications
    • Relates key findings back to the hypotheses
    • Makes recommendations for future studies

  9. References
    • Alphabetical list of all references referred to in the text

  10. Appendices
    • Presents relevant material not included in the body of the report (e.g. raw data, survey forms, maps etc)
